Job Description

The Sr Steam Turbine Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability and performance of major rotating equipment including steam turbines, cooling water pumps, and injection pumps. This role provides technical leadership, oversees maintenance programs, and serves as the owner’s representative for mechanical projects.

Responsibilities
  • Adhere to, support, and enforce all company safety and environmental rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain and repair main steam turbines, cooling water pumps, and injection pumps; develop written job scopes and procedures for major inspections.
  • Identify and verify stock of critical spare parts.
  • Coordinate repair of turbine rotors and turbine parts.
  • Implement reliability, predictive, and preventative maintenance activities, including vibration analysis, lubrication analysis, and thermography.
  • Recommend major work activities for critical equipment during major overhauls.
  • Coordinate failure analysis program investigations.
  • Write technical portion of contracts for rotating equipment.
  • Serve as owner’s representative for capital and expense mechanical projects.
  • Provide technical leadership to staff.
  • Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university engineering program.
  • Professional engineering license recommended.
  • Seven to ten years of experience with steam turbine operation, maintenance, and repair; power plant engineering, business, financial, and contractual matters knowledge.
  • Excellent communication skills; interface with employees, superiors, and vendors.
  • Prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret procedures, regulations, blueprints, schematics, and process and instrument diagrams.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, the general public, and employees at all levels.
  • Provide oral and written instruction that is understandable by all.
  • Make clear and precise decisions in critical situations and evaluate safety/environmental concerns.
  • Use technical skills to focus ideas onto substantial projects.
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn and clearly communicate complex ideas to those with less technical background.
  • Meet physical requirements: lift up to 50 lbs., climb, work in confined spaces, tolerate extreme temperatures.
  • Valid California driver’s license required;
    California professional engineering license preferred.
