Job Overview
The Riverside County Regional Park and Open Districts department is seeking a dynamic individual to join their team. The candidate will perform architectural and landscape architectural work in the design and development of plans and specifications for construction of parks and recreational areas; may examine and review plans and specifications prepared by consultants; and may provide construction supervision on contract projects.
Examplesof Essential Duties
- Prepare plans and specifications for proposed park projects, including buildings, parkways, landscaping, recreational, and sanitary facilities.
- Examine and approve plans and specifications prepared by outside consultants.
- Prepare Requests for Proposals and manage work performed by consultants.
- Review proposed development projects and develop conditions related to parks, open space, and trails.
- Participate in the selection of consultants and contractors.
- Obtain necessary permits and clearance for construction.
- Manage capital improvement projects.
- Supervise work done under contract to insure compliance with plans and specifications.
- May directly supervise small crews performing work on minor construction or maintenance projects.
- Compile data on departmental maintenance and operation costs for budgeting purposes.
- May represent the department when dealing with the public or others on planning and construction matters.
- Prepare correspondence and reports as assigned.
- Knowledge of regional park planning principles; modern surveying and construction methods and materials;
California Environmental Quality Act. - Ability to estimate costs and review construction and landscape plans; collect, analyze, and present data; work effectively with consultants, contractors, and staff members.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture, architecture, urban planning, park administration, park and recreation, or closely related field. - Experience:
One year of experience in park planning or project management, urban planning, land use planning, or architectural/landscape design and construction.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance plans available to elect;
Flexible Benefit Credit contribution under SEIU MOU. - Retirement:
Three CalPERS tiers (Tier I, Tier II, Tier III) with respective contributions. - Deferred compensation: voluntary employee contribution with 457 plan options.
- Vacation accrual: 0-3 years 80 hours, 4-9 years 120 hours, 10+ years 160 hours; maximum 480 hours.
- Sick leave: 4 hours per pay period, unlimited accrual.
- Holidays: 12 paid holidays per year.
- Bereavement leave: 5 days (3 days county-paid).
- Basic life insurance:
Equal to one times annual base salary up to $50,000 term coverage, premiums paid by county. - Short-term disability: up to $461.54 weekly, up to 52 weeks.
- Post-retirement medical contribution: monthly contribution toward retiree health insurance.
