Summary
A leading mechanical contractor is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support major process piping projects. This role works closely with Project Managers and field leadership and will take ownership of project controls, procurement, cost management, scheduling, change management, and field coordination.
The ideal candidate has experience supporting complex mechanical or process piping construction and is ready to take on greater project responsibility with a long-term path toward Project Management.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with overall management and execution of process piping and mechanical projects
- Manage RFIs, submittals, procurement, change orders, and project documentation
- Track project budgets, commitments, labor, materials, and overall job costs
- Assist with forecasting, billing, cost reporting, and financial projections
- Coordinate project schedules, manpower needs, procurement, and major milestones
- Manage vendor, supplier, and subcontractor coordination
- Partner with Superintendents and Foremen to address field issues and maintain productivity
- Review drawings, specifications, P&IDs, scopes, and contract documents
- Support change-order pricing, scope development, and documentation
- Participate in owner, GC, subcontractor, and internal project meetings
- Help mentor and oversee Project Engineers on assigned projects
- Support commissioning, turnover, closeout, and final project documentation
- ~5 years of project management or project engineering experience within construction
- Mechanical contractor, process piping, plumbing, or industrial construction experience strongly preferred
- Experience with pharmaceutical, biotech, semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, high-purity piping, or similar complex projects is highly valued
- Strong understanding of RFIs, submittals, procurement, scheduling, change orders, and cost controls
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and piping documentation
- Experience coordinating directly with field leadership, vendors, subcontractors, and clients
- Strong financial, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent industry experience considered
