What You’ll DoThe Department of Performing Arts at Ventura College seeks an accomplished costume/makeup designer and educator for a part-time faculty position. The candidate must have an established design portfolio and professional credentials in the stage, film, and television industries. The ideal individual will have a comprehensive understanding of costume/makeup design, strong leadership skills, a desire to work in an educational environment at the community‑college level, and the ability to recruit and mentor a diverse and often marginalized student population.
Under the general direction of a dean, an Instructor (Non‑Contract/Temporary) provides comprehensive classroom instruction to students from diverse backgrounds to facilitate the attainment of their academic or vocational objectives. In accordance with the provisions of Education Code Sections 87482.5, Instructors (Non‑Contract/Temporary) may be employed up to 67 % of a full‑time assignment.
Where You’ll WorkVentura College, established in 1925, serves an enrollment of 14,500 students. Located approximately 60 mi north of Los Angeles and 30 mi south of Santa Barbara, the 112‑acre campus is set in the rolling hills of Ventura with clear views of the Channel Islands from several spots.

RepresentativeDuties
- Provide academic instruction through lecture, lab, or design courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher‑order thinking skills.
- Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, other institutions, lifelong learning resources, and study skills; refer students to appropriate support services.
- Observe and evaluate student performance through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations; provide timely feedback.
- Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and learning outcomes to maximize student learning in alignment with department, college, and district goals.
- Maintain accurate records of enrollment, attendance, progress, curriculum, and learning outcomes; submit related reports timely.
- Evaluate and select instructional materials in collaboration with discipline faculty; order materials via campus bookstore procedure.
- Revise and update course content and materials to reflect new theory and industry developments.
- Update syllabi; collaborate with faculty on measurable performance indicators for each course.
- May participate in curriculum and program development and provide input into student learning outcomes.
- May attend and participate in committees and meetings at the department, division, campus, and district levels.
- May participate in articulation and matriculation activities and provide work direction to others.
