WHAT YOU'LL DO
Under the general direction of a dean, an Instructor (Non‑Contact/Temporary) provides comprehensive classroom instruction to students from diverse backgrounds for facilitating their academic or vocational objectives.
- Provide academic instruction to students through lecture, lab, or performance courses.
- Assess and develop cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher‑order thinking skills through appropriate assignments and activities.
- Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, other institutions of higher education, lifelong learning resources, and effective study skills; refer students to support services.
- Observe and evaluate student performance through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations, and provide timely feedback.
- Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes to maximize student learning.
- Maintain accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, student progress, curriculum, and learning outcomes; prepare and submit related reports.
- Evaluate and select instructional materials such as textbooks and software in collaboration with faculty; order materials through campus bookstore procedure.
- Revise and update course content and materials in accordance with new theory, application, and industry developments.
- Update syllabi; collaborate with faculty on measurable performance indicators.
- Participate in curriculum and program development, committees, departmental meetings, and articulation/matriculation activities.
- Provide work direction to others and perform related duties as assigned.
Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for the discipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors, defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators handbook.
- Master’s in anthropology or archaeology.
- Or Bachelor’s in anthropology or archaeology AND Master’s in sociology, biological sciences, forensic sciences, genetics, or paleontology.
- All coursework must be from a recognized accredited college or university.
- Foreign transcripts must be fully evaluated and evaluated copies submitted if applicable.
- Equivalency: candidates with non‑exact degree titles should submit the Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency.
Part‑time faculty with classroom assignments are paid between $2,007 and $3,108 per semester per 10% load. Salaries are governed by the collective bargaining agreement between the Ventura County Federation of College Teachers, AFT, Local 1828, AFL‑CIO and the Ventura County Community College District. Verification of part‑time teaching experience is required within 30 days of offer.
