Position: Associate Librarian (Part-Time Pool)

Job Overview

Part‑time Associate Librarian positions are available at the three VCCCD campuses—Oxnard, Moorpark, and Ventura. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis for future consideration for the Summer 2026, Fall 2026, and/or Spring 2027 semesters. Applications remain on file until a vacancy is announced and may be considered for any open role within the academic year.

Responsibilities
  • Reference and Instruction – Provide reference assistance and teach research methods, information literacy, bibliographic and library instruction sessions in one‑on‑one, classroom, and distance‑mediated settings.
  • Collaborate with faculty on student assignments, collection needs, and integration of information literacy into course curricula.
  • Perform original cataloging of library materials in all formats, including integration of online journals and e‑books into the library catalog, and assist with copy cataloging as needed.
  • Design and produce research guides, information‑literacy tutorials, program reports, and other resources in print, web‑based, and multimedia formats.
  • Plan and coordinate collection‑development activities, including acquisition, selection, deselection, vendor interaction, and budget allocation to meet curriculum needs.
  • Coordinate the purchase of print and non‑print library materials and resources in collaboration with faculty within the discipline.
  • Assist in grant‑proposal writing and post‑award documentation.
  • Research, promote, and implement interactive multimedia such as technology‑mediated instruction, interactive video conferencing, and other emerging instructional technologies.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of library policies and procedures; participate in the program review process.
  • Evaluate the collection and coordinate removal of materials with faculty input; evaluate donated materials.
  • Promote library resources and services to faculty, students, and campus groups; plan and present library tours.
  • Plan and implement library‑oriented programming, such as displays and library events.
  • Attend and participate in department, division, campus, and district meetings and committees; may participate in articulation and matriculation activities.
  • Collaborate with other library faculty to develop, assess, and revise measurable student learning outcomes.
  • Provide work direction to student workers.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for the discipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges handbook.

  • Master’s degree in Library Science, Library and Information Science, or the equivalent*;
    or possession of a valid California Community College Teaching Credential appropriate to the discipline.
  • All coursework must be from a recognized accredited college or university.
  • Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by an approved agency if the institution is not recognized by CHEA or the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Additional experience, education, and accomplishments may be judged equal to the stated minimum qualifications through an equivalency review by the Districtwide Equivalency Committee.

Salary

Part‑time faculty are paid between $2,408 and $3,108 per semester per 10% load, governed by the collective bargaining agreement with the Ventura County Federation of College Teachers, Local 1828.
