Position Overview
Instructor in Biological Sciences, focus on Microbiology, part‑time (up to 67% of a full‑time assignment). Responsible for course teaching, instructional design, student advising, and collaboration across the discipline. Work at Ventura College within the Ventura County Community College District.
Responsibilities- Provide academic instruction through lecture, lab, or performance courses.
- Assess and develop students’ cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher‑order thinking via assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations.
- Advise students on programs of study, other institutions, lifelong learning resources, and study skills; refer to support services.
- Observe and evaluate student performance; provide timely feedback.
- Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and learning outcomes.
- Maintain accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, student progress, curriculum, and outcomes.
- Evaluate and select instructional materials; order as per campus policy.
- Revise and update course content and materials in line with new theory and industry developments.
- Update syllabi; collaborate on measurable performance indicators.
- May participate in curriculum and program development, committees, articulation and matriculation activities, and provide direction to others.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
• Master’s degree in any biological science or Bachelor’s in biological science AND Master’s in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science, or possession of a California Community College Credential.
• All coursework must be from a recognized accredited college or university.
• Qualifications for specific biological science degrees include Anatomy, Animal Behavior, Bacteriology, Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Botany, DVM, Ecology, Embryology, Endocrinology, Evolution, Genetics, Immunology, Infectious Diseases, Life Sciences, Microbiology, Neurobiology, Organismal Biology, Pathology, Physiology, Virology, Zoology and related subfields.
CompensationPart‑time faculty with classroom assignments are paid between $2,408 and $3,108 per semester per 10% load. Salary governed by the collective bargaining agreement between the Ventura County Federation of College Teachers, AFT, Local 1828 and the VCCCD.
