Instructor in Drama/Theater Arts
Initial focus:
Prop & Scene Design/Construction/Crew Management. Part‑time faculty position. Begins Fall 2026 semester.
- Provide comprehensive classroom instruction in prop and scenic design, construction, and crew management.
- Lectures, labs, and performance courses to students of diverse backgrounds.
- Assess and develop students’ cognitive and communication skills through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations.
- Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, study skills, and support services.
- Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and learning outcomes.
- Maintain current, accurate records of enrollment, attendance, progress, curriculum, and outcomes; submit data and reports.
- Evaluate and select instructional materials; order materials per campus bookstore procedures.
- Revise and update course content and materials based on new theory and industry developments.
- Update syllabi; collaborate with faculty to assess and revise measurable performance indicators.
- Participate in curriculum and program development; contribute to student learning outcomes.
- Attend and participate on committees and meetings at department, division, campus, and district levels.
- Possibly provide work direction to others and perform related duties as assigned.
- Master’s or Master of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance, or Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance plus a Master’s in comparative literature, English, communication studies, speech, or literature, or equivalent.
- Possession of a valid California Community College Teaching Credential appropriate to the discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Comprehensive understanding of scenic and prop design and construction; advanced practical skills and design portfolio.
- Experience managing crews in theater or related production settings.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, commitment to teaching at the community‑college level, and ability to recruit and mentor a diverse student population.
- Recognized credentials in theater, and possibly film and television industries.
- All coursework from a recognized accredited college or university.
Part‑time faculty will be paid between $2,007 and $3,108 per semester per 10% load. Salary is determined by educational achievement and relevant experience per the VCCCD collective bargaining agreement.
