Substitute Paraeducator Special Education​/Alternative Ed Schools

The Ventura County Office of Education is accepting applications to establish a pool of substitute para educators for our Special Education and Court and Community Schools. Our Special Education programs serve students with moderate to severe disabilities and students with emotional disturbances ages three through twenty-two. These programs are operated in Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Moorpark. Gateway Community School in Camarillo serves at-promise teenage students in grades six through twelve.

Providence School in Oxnard is a Juvenile Court School which provides educational services to the minors from twelve through eighteen years of age who are incarcerated in the juvenile facility. All substitutes in the pool must be available to work a minimum of two days per week on a consistent basis, with all age groups, and in all the cities we serve, in order to meet the needs of our students.

Upon completion of the questionnaire, you will receive a code that you must enter on your online application. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to:
Graduation from high school. One year of experience working with school-age children in an organized setting. Minimum of 48 college units or an Associate Arts (AA) degree. If you have completed 48 or more semester units of college coursework from a regionally accredited college or university, we will need a copy of your OFFICIAL transcripts verifying at least 48 semester units.

Substitutes 5189 Verdugo Way Camarillo, CA 93012 If you have NOT completed 48 or more semester units, you will need to take our written test. Selected applicants will be invited for the test. The testing date will be emailed to you if you are selected to progress to that step.

Please be certain that you complete the Record of Work Experience section of the application, you may not attach a resume in lieu of completing the Record of Work Experience section. Your previous work experience does not have to be related to working with children. If you have no previous work experience, please state under the Current Employer section: I have no employment history.

Please do NOT complete the Professional Reference section of the substitute para educator application. It is an EdJoin default but is NOT required for substitute para educator applications.

SELECTION PROCEDURES:
Each applicant's packet will be reviewed for thoroughness and scheduled for testing (if needed) and training, if qualified. Any attempt to directly contact the Superintendent with the intent of influencing the selection process will be considered a breach of professional ethics and disqualify the applicant from further consideration. This position requires employers to verify actual social security number, therefore, your original social security card will be necessary upon employment.

A statement of "freedom from tuberculosis" is required. Proof of authorization to work in the United States is required for employment. FINGERPRINTING:
State law requires that all employees be fingerprinted to check for or verify conviction records. AB1610 prohibits an employer from employing a person until the DOJ/FBI completes its obligations regarding the arrest and conviction information, and from employing a person who has been convicted of a violent or serious felony, as defined. If qualified and interested, an application shall be submitted electronically via the Edjoin website.

A complete application packet must include the following:
Edjoin online application OFFICIAL transcripts (they are not submitted via EdJoin but must be submitted following the directions on the EdJoin job posting) verifying completion of a minimum of 48 semester units of college coursework from a regionally accredited college or university OR passage of the VCOE Para educator Written Exam. Only complete applications will be reviewed. Submitted materials become the property of the Ventura County Office of Education (VCOE) and will be considered for this position only.

VCOE will not return application materials. Applicant is responsible for ensuring that the application packet is complete when submitted. Applications will be held in strict confidence.
