Position: Instructor in Drama/Theater Arts (Initial focus: Prop & Scene Design/Construction/Crew Management)

Position Summary

This is a pool to fill a part-time Instructor position at Moorpark College in Theater Arts with an initial focus on Prop & Scene Design, Construction, and Crew Management beginning Fall 2026.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop and teach courses in Prop & Scene Design, Construction, and Crew Management to a diverse student body.
  • Demonstrate advanced construction skills and manage production crews.
  • Design and build props and scenic elements, integrating contemporary theatrical and film/television industry techniques.
  • Recruit, mentor, and support student teams, fostering inclusive learning environments.
  • Assisting in curriculum development and assessment to meet college and district learning outcomes.
Qualifications
  • Master’s, Master of Fine Arts, Bachelor’s, or Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama, theater arts, performance, or equivalent.
  • Theory and practical experience in scenic and prop design and construction.
  • Strong leadership and crew management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff, and to mentor students of diverse backgrounds.
  • Valid California Community College Teaching Credential appropriate to the discipline (or equivalent qualifications).
Essential Duties
  • Plan and conduct classroom instruction, lectures, labs, and performance courses.
  • Assess student performance and provide timely feedback.
  • Maintain accurate records of enrollment, attendance, and academic progress.
  • Select and procure instructional materials.
  • Update syllabi and course materials.
  • Participate in committees and program development as required.

Compensation

Part-time faculty with classroom assignments are paid between $2,007 and $3,108 per semester per 10% load, based on education and experience.
