Sr. Mechanical Engineer
Kelly® Engineering is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for a direct-hire opportunity with a confidential aerospace manufacturer in Camarillo, California.
Compensation:
Up to $140,000 annually
Overview:
Our client designs and manufactures highly engineered rotating machinery and electromechanical systems used in demanding aerospace and defense applications. Product lines include electric motors, starter generators, and related power generation systems.
This is a newly created role driven by company growth and increased new product development activity. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will support one dedicated product line and own projects across the full product lifecycle, including design, analysis, prototype support, testing, documentation, manufacturing support, validation, and sustaining engineering.
Responsibilities- Design and develop aerospace rotating machinery products, including electric motors, starter generators, and related electromechanical assemblies.
- Create 3D models, drawings, layouts, tolerance studies, engineering calculations, and technical documentation.
- Perform or coordinate mechanical analysis, including stress, thermal, and related design evaluations.
- Support the design of components such as bearings, gears, clutches, shafts, housings, brush motors, brushless motors, generators, and related assemblies.
- Apply GD&T, design for manufacturing, and design for assembly principles.
- Support prototypes, production builds, shop-floor troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and failure investigations.
- Develop and support test plans, procedures, qualification activities, and product validation.
- Prepare aerospace documentation such as ATPs, QTPs, QTRs, engineering change documentation, and technical data packages.
- Interpret customer specifications, aerospace standards, material requirements, finishes, and process specifications.
- Manage assigned project schedules, deliverables, design reviews, and technical milestones.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, test, suppliers, customers, and outside test facilities.
- Mentor junior engineers and serve as a senior technical resource within the engineering team.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline preferred.
- Senior-level mechanical engineering experience required, preferably 10+ years; candidates with 5+ years of highly relevant aerospace rotating machinery experience may be considered.
- Aerospace product development experience required.
- Strong rotating machinery experience, including motors, generators, bearings, gears, clutches, or similar mechanical systems.
- Experience supporting products from concept through design, prototype, testing, qualification, production, and sustaining engineering.
- Solid Works proficiency required.
- GD&T experience required.
- Experience with ANSYS Workbench, Solid Works Simulation, or similar analysis tools preferred.
- Experience with aerospace documentation, qualification testing, and product validation.
- Working knowledge of DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, or similar aerospace and defense testing standards preferred.
- Hands-on experience supporting manufacturing, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, or failure investigation.
- Project management experience, including schedule ownership and design review support.
- Understanding of electromagnetics or magnetic circuit design is desired, but not required.
- Must be a U.S. person as defined by ITAR due to access to export-controlled information.
