Description

Our client, a growing manufacturer supporting highly regulated life sciences industries, is seeking a Packaging Engineer to lead packaging design, development, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives. This individual will partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain, and Product Management teams to develop primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging solutions for new and existing products.

This role offers a unique opportunity to support new product introductions, packaging validation activities, change management initiatives, and packaging optimization projects within a regulated manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities Design and develop primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging solutions for new and existing products. Create and maintain packaging specifications, technical documentation, bills of materials (BOMs), and engineering drawings. Lead packaging-related activities for new product introductions and product lifecycle improvements. Develop packaging testing strategies and author validation protocols and reports. Perform package verification and validation activities including ISTA and ASTM testing.

Evaluate packaging materials including polymers, corrugate, films, foams, adhesives, labels, inks, and sustainable alternatives. Support design control, change control, and risk management activities including DFMEA and PFMEA. Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to qualify materials, improve performance, and resolve packaging issues. Investigate packaging-related deviations, non-conformances, and customer complaints while driving corrective actions. Provide technical support during manufacturing transfers, process improvements, and packaging equipment qualification projects.

Ensure compliance with applicable quality and regulatory requirements. Partner with Quality and Operations teams to support verification, validation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills & Qualifications

Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Industrial Engineering, or related technical discipline. 4+ years of packaging engineering experience within medical device, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other regulated manufacturing environments. Experience designing and developing product packaging and labeling systems. Understanding of packaging materials including plastics, paper products, adhesives, labels, and corrugated materials.

Experience with packaging testing standards such as ISTA, ASTM, or similar. Proficiency with CAD software such as Solid Works or comparable design platforms. Experience authoring validation protocols, test plans, and technical reports. Familiarity with design controls, change controls, and risk management methodologies. Strong project management, communication, and problem-solving skills. Experience working within GMP-regulated environments.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with sustainable packaging initiatives. Familiarity with automated packaging or filling equipment. Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing certification. Experience supporting supplier qualification and packaging component sourcing activities.

This is a Contract position based out of Camarillo, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr.
