Job Title
Sr CNC Machinist
Position SummarySet up and operate conventional and/or numerically controlled machining centers on complex and difficult jobs. Interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications to plan and execute machining operations. Contribute to lean initiatives to increase productivity and reduce costs. Work independently with minimum guidance in a team environment.
Essential Functions- Run multiple machines efficiently, including simultaneous operations.
- Set up, adjust, and operate conventional and special purpose machines for diverse, high‑tolerance production.
- Interpret customer requirements from blueprints, drawings, engineering specifications, and verbal instructions.
- Interface with engineering to resolve drawing errors, suggest design changes, and solve product/process problems.
- Implement manufacturing methods using standard machines, materials, and tooling; advise on tooling design.
- Make complex setups with multiple workpiece stations using custom or standard holding devices.
- Define and develop processes with limited documentation.
- Diagnose and resolve machining problems.
- Inspect finished parts for conformance to specifications using visual examination and precision instruments such as gauges, calipers, micrometers, comparators, surface plates, and coordinate‑measurement machines.
- Maintain equipment cleanliness, accuracy, and reliability; perform regular calibration and statistical process control.
- Apply advanced shop mathematics, including trigonometry, and knowledge of metal characteristics.
- Contribute to lean initiatives by identifying improvement opportunities and applying lean tools.
- Coordinate workload priorities and accommodate business demand.
- Adhere to all company policies, safety rules, and maintain a clean and orderly work area.
- Train and mentor less experienced team members.
- Perform other related responsibilities as requested.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent. Five or more years of directly related CNC machining experience in a high‑technology manufacturing environment. Ability to work independently with minimum supervisory guidance in a fast‑paced environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Handle multiple tasks with changing priorities to meet customer needs.
- Read, understand, and follow blueprints, complex drawings, engineering specifications, and informal written or verbal instructions.
- Create and evaluate precision machine setups with a solid understanding of precision machining principles; prior experience machining shaped forgings preferred.
- Possess working knowledge of advanced shop mathematics, including trigonometry.
- Implement lean initiatives.
- Demonstrate effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to collaborate in a team environment.
- Show mentoring and training capabilities.
- Interpret reports and use job‑specific software applications, including employee self‑service systems and specialized automated systems.
- Participate in goal setting, performance feedback, and self‑development activities.
Walk, stand, and sit for extended periods; demonstrate manual dexterity and use hands to operate machinery. Requires close vision. May lift up to 50 lbs. Regular attendance and professional cooperation are required.

Compensation and BenefitsPay Range: $26.65 per hour to $40.25 per hour
