This role develops and manages detailed production plans that support fabrication and assembly operations across the full manufacturing lifecycle. The Production Planner / Scheduler oversees the movement of work orders from release through completion, aligning internal production goals with customer delivery expectations. The position coordinates resources, optimizes workflow efficiency, and maintains accurate schedules while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure on-time, high-quality output.

Responsibilities
  • Review incoming and open orders to identify production requirements and create detailed work instructions and routing steps based on engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Build and maintain production schedules that optimize workflow, balance capacity, and maximize resource utilization across fabrication and assembly operations.
  • Coordinate the movement of materials and components to support uninterrupted production flow and minimize bottlenecks.
  • Partner with purchasing to ensure timely availability of raw materials and components required to meet production schedules.
  • Follow up on supplier orders as needed to prevent delays and maintain alignment with production timelines.
  • Use ERP/MRP systems (such as SAP or similar platforms) to generate, manage, and release manufacturing work orders and to support material picking and staging activities.
  • Work closely with warehouse and procurement teams to identify and resolve material shortages and inventory discrepancies.
  • Communicate schedule changes, risks, or potential delays to internal stakeholders, including customer-facing teams, in a clear and timely manner.
  • Track production progress to ensure builds remain on schedule and escalate issues that may impact delivery commitments.
  • Generate reports on production status, inventory levels, and order progress to support operational decision-making.
  • Apply established procedures and sound judgment to address scheduling conflicts, production challenges, and changing priorities.
  • Verify that completed assemblies meet design specifications, tolerances, and order requirements before release.
  • Collaborate with engineering to clarify drawing details, tolerances, and production requirements, and to refine routings and work instructions as needed.
  • Process internal approvals and documentation related to production workflows, including work orders, routing changes, and process updates.
  • Support basic upkeep and coordination of production equipment readiness to help maintain smooth operations.
  • Assist with training and recertification efforts for assembly personnel by providing accurate work instructions and schedule visibility.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support operations, continuous improvement, and overall production efficiency.
Essential Skills
  • At least 5 years of experience in production planning, scheduling, project coordination, or a related function within a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience with production planning and scheduling in a manufacturing setting, including managing production queues and aligning output with customer delivery timelines.
  • Proficiency using ERP/MRP systems (such as SAP or similar platforms) to generate, manage, and release work orders, maintain accurate production schedules, and track material flow.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and technical drawings, including tolerances, to create accurate routings and work instructions and to verify finished assemblies.
  • Strong understanding of production processes, quality standards, and cost considerations within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience collaborating with purchasing and procurement teams to manage purchase orders and ensure material availability.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and similar business software for reporting, scheduling, and communication.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple orders and priorities simultaneously.
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate with engineering, warehouse, procurement, and customer-facing teams.
  • Ability to apply established procedures and sound judgment when addressing scheduling and production challenges.
