Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, Automotive Technician
As a Mechanic Level A at RATP Dev USA, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of our transit fleet. You will diagnose, repair, maintain, and inspect heavy-duty diesel buses and trucks using advanced mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills. As one of our most highly skilled technicians, you will perform complex preventive maintenance and corrective repairs while supporting operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and passenger safety.
This position requires maintaining four ASE Truck or Transit Bus certifications (including T6 or H6 Electrical Systems), EPA 608/609 Air Conditioning Certification, and leveraging at least four years of verifiable heavy-duty diesel bus or truck maintenance experience to keep our vehicles operating at the highest standards of service and dependability.
Specific Duties

- One (1) year progressive heavy equipment maintenance preferred
- Two (2) years technical degree or equivalent experience preferred
- Must have computer skills for the ability to repair sub-components of all types of buses.
- Must have the ability to understand and follow schematics.
- Intermediate level computer skills (including Microsoft applications)
- Customer-focused attitude, with high level of professionalism and discretion
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, establish trust and credibility, and act with complete integrity
- Detail-oriented, resourceful, diligent and able to operate independently with limited supervision (completing assigned work accurately and in a timely manner)
- Able to work in a team environment, cohesively to ensure vehicle safety
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Sound judgement;
Good problem-solving and analytical skills (troubleshoot technical issues, communicate and document solutions to non-technical parties) - Excellent communication skills
- Must be flexible and work in a 24/7 environment.
- Additional training from mechanical/technical schools, courses or seminars desirable
- Experience with diagnostic computer equipment and software required
- Must have the ability to learn the design, maintenance, and adjustments of ADA equipment, air conditioning, brakes, chassis, cooling system, engine, interior/exterior lighting, gauges and controls, safety equipment, fire suppression system and sensitive edges, tires and transmissions
- Hands on experience in electrical and mechanical troubleshooting
- Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, precision instruments, HVAC recovery equipment, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches and hydraulic presses in addition to computer programs such as Cummins Insite and Allison DOC.
- Maintains and creates records and work history within electronic repair orders.
- Inspect / diagnose / repair / replace brake systems, fuel and emission systems, drive lines, steering and suspension systems, passenger heating/cooling systems, etc. to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
- Use of in-ground and above-ground hoists as well as portable hoists and hydraulic jacks to raise equipment for inspection and repair.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance inspections and procedures such as changing oil and filters, lubricating steering, suspension and brake components, battery maintenance, compressed natural gas tank inspections, etc.
- Test drive/operate light duty vehicles, trucks, buses and support equipment to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
- Inspect, adjust, repair and replace protective guards, loose components, and specified safety devices.
- Vehicle chassis alignments.
- Replace, repair, and perform routine maintenance on internal combustion engines to include gasoline, diesel, and alternative fuel in addition to transmissions and differential units.
- Repair and adjust seats, doors, and windows, interior and exterior trim and hardware. Install, diagnose and repair/replace vehicle accessories.
- Emission related diagnosis and repairs.
- Minor fabrication, welding, grinding, soldering, etc.
- Performs service calls on vehicles and equipment.
