Position SummaryThe school counselors utilize evidence-based and nationally recognized instructional practices to interface with the educational process and meet the needs of schools, students, and families in the Camas School District. Using a strengths-based, culturally-responsive, and system-wide approach, school counselors focus on social-emotional health, prevention and intervention by facilitating engagement between schools, families, and the community. Using their training in systems theory, advocacy, and cultural competence, as well as the four components of the American School Counselor Association (define, manage, deliver, and assess), school social workers address the District's Strategic Imperatives by providing direct services to students and families, linking children, youth, and families to community agency resources, providing Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) on all three tiers, and aligning services to meet the educational needs of all students.
Qualifications- Must possess a valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate (ESA) certificate with a School Social Worker or School Counselor endorsement.
- Identify challenges in a child's living situation (home, school, and community) that may affect the child's adjustment, ability, and attendance in the educational setting.
- Conduct home visits and meet with families regularly.
- Develop and facilitate culturally-responsive support groups and provide students with strategies to cope with and overcome difficulties impacting school performance.
- Assist parents/guardians with understanding of District decisions, policies, and procedures, including Multi-Tiered System of Supports.
- Identify, mobilize, and coordinate school and community resources to enable students to learn as effectively as possible in the educational setting.
- Contribute knowledge, skills, and techniques in the areas of social-emotional and mental health and human behavior to parents/guardians and school team members.
- Develop and implement student and parent support groups and activities.
- Attend and participate in department meetings, in-services, and trainings.
- Plan, conduct, and participate in educational workshops and presentations.
- May serve as a member of school teams and provide information related to planning for the educational needs of children or students.

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands:
Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 50% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

School Employee Benefit Board (SEBB) Eligibility determination:
All eligibility determinations are based on rules in Chapters 182-30 and 182-31 of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC). If the position is anticipated to work a minimum of 630 hours in a school year, then that position would be deemed benefit eligible. SEBB benefits include medical, vision, dental, long-term disability and life insurance. Supplemental coverages are also available.
