General PurposeThe Director of Secondary Curriculum, Instruction, & Teaching and Learning provides visionary, collaborative, and strategic leadership for the district's secondary educational program and teaching and learning systems. This position supports the Superintendent and Cabinet in developing, implementing, and sustaining high-quality instructional programs, leadership systems, and professional learning structures that improve student outcomes and align with the district's mission, vision, and strategic goals.
The Director serves as a key instructional leader responsible for secondary curriculum, assessment, instructional alignment, administrator support and supervision, and professional learning systems. This executive-level role bridges district strategic priorities with daily school operations to ensure equitable, responsive, and student-centered educational experiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Strategic Leadership Development: Works closely with the Assistant Superintendent or designee to create, facilitate, and monitor strategic professional development for building leaders, ensuring administrative growth aligns with district instructional goals.
- Administrative Leadership: Assists the Superintendent in directing the administration and coordination of the district's secondary (middle and high school) educational program.
- Administrator Supervision: Provides leadership, supervision, mentorship, and evaluation for secondary principals and administrators.
- Teaching & Learning Oversight: Supports and supervises district teaching and learning systems, instructional frameworks, and professional learning initiatives.
- Curriculum Management: Leads curriculum research, development, adoption, implementation, and evaluation processes for secondary programs and instructional materials.
- System Alignment: Ensures vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum, instructional practices, and assessment systems across grade levels and content areas.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Utilizes district and building-level assessment data to identify achievement trends, support instructional decision-making, and improve student outcomes.
- Instructional Innovation: Supports the development and implementation of secondary academic programming, intervention systems, and instructional innovation.
- Professional Development: Designs, coordinates, and supports professional development aligned to district priorities, instructional best practices, and adult learning principles.

Coaching:
Supervises and supports instructional coaching systems and collaborates with administrators to strengthen classroom instruction and staff development. - Operational Support: Serves as a resource and support for administrators in addressing operational, instructional, personnel, student, and community concerns.
- Compliance: Supports district compliance with state and federal requirements related to curriculum, instruction, assessment, and secondary graduation requirements.
- Continuous Improvement: Participates in school improvement planning and continuous improvement efforts across secondary schools.
- Governance & Community: Participates in School Board meetings, administrative meetings, and community meetings to gather and share information.
- Crisis Leadership: Provides leadership during crisis response situations and supports continuity of operations and learning.
- Secondary Expertise: Maintains deep knowledge and understanding of secondary instructional programming, graduation pathways, secondary scheduling structures, and college and career readiness systems.
- Leadership Capacity Building: Demonstrates the ability to partner with district executive leadership to build administrative capacity through targeted, strategic professional learning and accountability systems.
- Instructional Mastery: Deep understanding of curriculum, assessment, instructional systems, and school improvement practices that support secondary achievement.
