Our Project-Based Learning Campus is looking for a highly qualified 6th-12th grade health/fitness teacher to join our team. Qualified candidates should be WA State-licensed teachers with experience in middle school and high school courses. Our fitness instructors often teach 6th-12th grade at our campus. The PBL Campus is roughly 500 students in grades 6th-12th who engage in their learning through project-based learning.

Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the building principal, performs a variety of tasks, with the major responsibility being the instruction and supervision of students. Demonstrates a competent level of knowledge and skill in planning for and implementing instruction, student achievement, and creates a positive classroom environment. Demonstrates a commitment to continual professional growth and the accomplishment of building, district, and state goals as related to the education of students.

Responsibilities:

A. Lesson Planning and Design: Demonstrates a competent level of knowledge and skill in planning and implementing classroom instruction.

1. Develops Universally Designed lessons with clear objectives focusing on Common Core State Standards (CCSS), concepts, skills, and strategies.

2. Incorporates data-driven reflection and assessment results, including student self-assessments, to improve lessons.

3. Meets the learning needs of the students by planning culturally responsive instructional strategies and practices appropriate to the students involved, the subject matter, and the desired learning objective.

4. Selects and organizes instructional materials and equipment for the unit of instruction.

5. Ensures a positive and supportive school environment that engages all students and includes multiple pathways for success.

6. Plan and conduct lessons to promote educational equity for all students in order to eliminate disproportional racial and socioeconomic predictability of academic success.

B. Classroom Environment: Creates and maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning for all students.

1. Establishes management practices that result in routines, transitions, and minimal loss of instruction time.

2. Establishes and clearly communicates parameters for student behavior to students and parents.

3. Uses the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework to provide behavioral supports and intervention and provides meaningful reinforcement when it occurs.

4. Manages discipline problems fairly and in accordance with building regulations, school board policies, and legal requirements.

5. Uses classroom time effectively to provide maximum time on learning tasks.

C. Assessment: Utilizes multiple and appropriate assessment tools in evaluating student achievement.

1. Communicates clear assessment criteria and standards.

2. Uses lesson analysis to assess and work toward improvement of instruction.

3. Evaluates and informs students of their progress.

4. Uses data on student achievement to plan instruction.

D. Instruction and Classroom Teaching Practice:
Demonstrates a repertoire of instructional and classroom teaching practices.

1. Motivates students to accomplish stated objectives.

2. Gives clear direction and checks for student understanding.

3. Presents subject matter clearly and precisely.

4. Uses a wide variety of strategies to engage student learning.

5. Engages students in active participation.

6. Explains, demonstrates, provides practice and feedback so that students can comprehend and retain what is being taught.

E. Professional Development and Responsibilities:
Demonstrates continual commitment to professional growth and improved student learning.

1. Seeks opportunities for staff development to enhance content knowledge and teaching skill.

2. Participates in development and support of the building and district strategic plans.

3. Assumes responsibility for parent communication in a professional and timely manner.

4. Utilizes effective, professional communication with students, parents, and colleagues.

5. Practices punctuality, timely and accurate completion of required records and reports.

Qualifications:

1. Washington State Certification.
2. Specific endorsement may be required for positions.
3. Experience in or knowledge of equitable teaching and learning practices and protocols and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
4. A commitment to provide equitable access and experiences for all students, including the disruption of systemic inequities.
5. Possession of a high level of organization skills and practices.
6. Experience or ability to teach in an online environment.
