Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the building leadership, the Preschool Instructor is responsible for maintaining a structured early childhood classroom that supports student learning, social-emotional development, and safety. The instructor plans and implements developmentally appropriate instruction, manages classroom routines and behavior, collaborates with staff, and communicates with families. The role includes working in partnership with special education staff and related service providers to support student access to learning and services.

Responsibilities

A. Instructional Planning and Delivery
  • Plans and delivers engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction aligned to district curriculum and early learning standards.
  • Uses a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students ages 2.5 5.
  • Collaborates with special education staff and related service providers to support student access and participation in classroom learning.
  • Selects, organizes, and utilizes appropriate instructional materials and resources.
  • Creates learning experiences with clear objectives, purposeful skill development, and measurable outcomes.
  • B. Classroom Environment
  • Establishes and maintains a structured, safe, and supportive classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Implements consistent routines, expectations, and developmentally appropriate positive behavior supports.
  • Uses instructional time effectively to maximize student engagement and learning.
  • Fosters a classroom climate that supports student belonging and positive peer interactions.
  • Maintains clear and consistent communication with families regarding student progress, behavior, and expectations.
  • Schedules and facilitates family meetings, including conferences and connection meetings.
  • Provides for the physical needs of students which may include catheterization, bath rooming, diapering, handling bodily fluids, lifting/transferring students.
  • C. Assessment and Progress Monitoring
  • Uses multiple age-appropriate assessment tools to monitor student development and learning.
  • Maintains accurate records and uses data to inform instruction and improve practice.
  • Communicates student progress to families in a timely and meaningful way.
  • Collaborates with staff to review student progress and adjust supports as needed.
  • D. Instructional Practice
  • Delivers clear instruction with multiple entry points for student engagement.
  • Checks for understanding and adjusts instruction based on student needs.
  • Differentiates instruction through accommodations, supports, and targeted strategies.
  • Supports student participation in classroom learning, including students receiving additional services.
  • E. Professional Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with certificated staff and early learning partners to support student transitions, including kindergarten readiness.
  • Participates in meetings as appropriate (e.g., team meetings, student support meetings, IEP-related input as requested).
  • Completes required documentation, records, and reporting in a timely manner.
  • Engages in ongoing professional learning and staff collaboration.
  • Works collaboratively with and guides support staff, including para educators, to ensure effective classroom operations.
  • Supports program components such as student interns, when applicable.
  • Professional Qualifications
  • AA/AS degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience teaching preschool.
  • A combination of education and experience in a preschool setting may be considered in place of a degree.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and early learning educational software.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain current First Aid/CPR certification. (Required)

  • The employee may be required to lift, carry, or assist students and classroom materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • The work environment may include moderate to high noise levels and frequent interruptions consistent with a preschool setting.
