Overview

Paraprofessional substitutes can work in various positions and programs throughout the district. Active on the substitute list requires subbing at least once per school year and completing online safety trainings prior to hire and annually for continued employment.

Hours and pay: varies by position and location (day shift);
Salaries vary by position with 2026–2027 hourly rates listed below.

  • Supervision, Crossings and Overload Paraprofessionals: $20.95
  • Classroom, Elementary Media, Special Education Caseload Relief, and Special Education Instruction Paraprofessionals: $22.05
  • Special Education High Needs and LAP & Title I Paraprofessionals: $22.83
Paraprofessional Roles

Paraprofessional Supervision

Purpose: Provide safe and caring supervision of students on the playground, in the cafeteria, or on campus during non-class time to ensure safety and wellbeing.

Essential Functions:

  • Monitor and supervise students before, during, and after school to ensure safety.
  • Provide student support and guidance with a positive attitude.
  • Understand and adhere to school rules regarding student behavior.
  • Report and document incidents promptly for proper follow-up.
  • Check and monitor play equipment for playground safety.
  • Supervise safe arrival and departure of students.
  • Provide first aid services in a medical emergency.
  • Provide other supports for teachers and staff as needed.
  • Other related duties to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment.

    Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience with children, preferably in an educational setting.
  • First aid and CPR certification current.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Office).

    Environmental Conditions:

  • Stand for long periods; 
stoop, bend, walk, run.
  • Work in noisy environments and physically assist students.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds; work outdoors in all weather.
  • Paraprofessional Classroom

    Purpose: In coordination with a classroom teacher, assist with individual students or small groups to achieve academic skills; may assist with supervision, clerical duties, and setup/cleanup.

    Essential Functions:

  • Deliver or reinforce academic skills with students or small groups.
  • Distribute and collect classroom materials as requested.
  • Assist with supervision of students as needed.
  • Assist individual students with clothing, hygiene, or cleanup routines.
  • Collaborate with the teacher to run the classroom effectively.
  • Communicate with office staff as needed.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 72 quarter/48 semester credits OR AA/AS OR pass the state exam for paraprofessionals.
  • Complete required state guidance (Fundamental Course of Study and General Certificate).
  • Experience with children in an academic setting.
  • Demonstrated academic proficiency and basic computer skills (MS Office).
  • First aid/CPR certification.

    Purpose: In coordination with the classroom teacher and special services staff, provide 1:1 and/or small group assistance in self-contained or specialized programs to support access to regular and special education.

    Essential Functions:

  • Implement specialized/adaptive procedures and curriculum as instructed.
  • Prepare and use appropriate materials for students.
  • Implement IEPs as designated.
  • Provide for the physical needs of students as required (e.g., transfer, lifting).
