Job DescriptionDorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for Physical Management Assistants and substitute Physical Management Assistants for the school year. The candidate will work under the direction of the school principal and the supervisor of special education. This position is seven (7) hours per day and does not include benefits.
Performance Responsibilities- Support teachers in their work with individual students and students in small groups in order to reinforce and promote academic and behavioral successes;
- Assist classroom teachers in classroom behavior management;
- Assist teaching staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing content material and skills based on an understanding of individual student needs, interests and abilities;
- Monitor and support students in computer assisted activities;
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students;
- Supervision of students during meal times and classroom transition times;
- Participate in staff in-service programs as assigned;
- Assist with lifting, feeding, and toileting of students as needed;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED;
- Previous experience in a classroom setting preferred;
- Familiarity with accepted practices and procedures in working with students, to include those with behavioral problems;
- Ability to demonstrate a high degree of understanding and acceptance of all children and interest in the education of students with special needs;
- Ability to follow instructions;
- Ability to accept supervision;
- Ability to communicate effectively;
- A doctor’s note stating you are able to assist students with disabilities with Activities of Daily Living (ADL), which may involve lifting, pulling, etc. before you begin employment.
- At least 1 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
- High School/Trade School degree preferred.
