Student Support Monitor ($28,955+)
Location:
Cambridge, Maryland. Positions available at Cambridge‑South Dorchester High School, Maces Lane Middle School, and North Dorchester High School.
Dorchester County Public Schools is accepting applications for the position of Student Support Monitor. This 10‑month, seven‑hour‑per‑day full‑time position includes benefits. The successful candidate must be a team player, self‑starter, able to work independently, and handle confidential information in a fast‑paced school environment. The role supports school safety and security by responding to emergencies, intervening in interpersonal conflicts, and directing students and staff in crisis situations.
Duties- Monitors activities that may interfere with a safe and positive school climate (e.g., student conflicts, staff‑student conflicts, rumors, “trouble spots,” potentially volatile or dangerous situations).
- Provides regular and accurate feedback to administrative staff or the School Safety and Emergency Preparedness Coordinator regarding activities that may interfere with a safe school environment.
- Documents any information or observations (daily log) regarding violations of school discipline guidelines and reports them directly to the Principal or the Principal’s designee.
- Assists administrative staff in crisis intervention/emergency response activities; uses the “911” radio for life‑threatening situations in remote areas of the school and assists in restoring order during altercations (Ed. Article Sec. 7-306).
- Acts as a mentor for students at risk for suspension or expulsion (modeling, positive reinforcement, problem solving, etc.).
- Assists Individual Educational Plan (IEP) Teams and MTSS as appropriate.
- Assists school counselors and/or administration with conflict resolution/mediation activities.
- Assists with school‑based parent involvement activities.
- Assists the Student Services Office in communicating school concerns to parents and establishing parent rapport.
- Performs other duties as assigned consistent with program requirements, and as assigned by school administration.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. required;
Associate degree preferred. - Post‑secondary education preferred with the ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
- Experience working with secondary school‑age youth, preferably in an educational environment.
- Ability to successfully complete appropriate TACT 2 and CPR training.
- Ability to successfully complete mandatory state‑required school safety/security training.
- Valid Maryland driver’s license with acceptable driving records.
- Preferred prior law enforcement training in de‑escalation techniques and appropriate intervention approaches.
Salary: $28,955 to $46,313 per year.
