Job Description

The Dean of Students & Leadership Development serves as a member of the school leadership team and assists the principal in promoting a safe, supportive, and productive learning environment. The Dean supports student behavior, attendance, school climate, family engagement, and student support initiatives while participating in leadership development experiences designed to prepare future school administrators.

The position is intended to strengthen both student outcomes and the district’s internal leadership pipeline. As part of our Believe in Us:
Achieving our Potential Together Strategic Plan this position serves as a launching point into the path of administration. The locations of this position are as follows:
Sandy Hill Elementary School and Cambridge-South Dorchester High School.

DUTIES Student Discipline and Behavior Management (35%)
  • Assistin the implementation of the Student Code of Conduct and school discipline procedures.
  • Conduct student investigations and prepare required documentation.
  • Facilitate student conferences and restorative conversations.
  • Collaborate with staff and families to address behavioral concerns.
  • Maintain discipline records and analyze behavioral trends.
  • Assist with implementation of positive behavior interventions and restorative practices.
  • Support student re-entry meetings following disciplinary actions.
  • Assist with student safety and crisis response efforts.
Attendance and Student Engagement (15%)
  • Monitor attendance data andidentifyattendance concerns.
  • Participate inattendanceintervention meetings.
  • Collaborate with familiesregardingattendance issues.
  • Participate in home visits as appropriate.
  • Assist with attendance improvement initiatives and intervention plans.
School Climate, PBIS, and Student Support (15%)
  • Support implementation of PBIS, MTSS, restorative practices, and school climate initiatives.
  • Coordinate student recognition and engagement activities.
  • Assistin developing strategies to improve school culture and student connectedness.
  • Analyze behavior, attendance, and climate data to support school improvement efforts.
  • Collaborate with counselors, PPWs, psychologists, and student services staff.
Leadership Development Activities (15%)
  • Participate as an active member of the school leadership team.
  • Attend leadership meetings and professional development activities.
  • Participate in district leadership development opportunities.
  • Assist with leadership projects assigned by the principal.
  • Participate in administrative decision‑making processes.
  • Complete leadership development activities aligned with future administrative roles.
Instructional Leadership Exposure (10%)
  • Participate in instructional walkthroughs with administrators.
  • Assist with analysis of student achievement and school performance data.
  • Support onboarding and mentoring efforts for new teachers.
  • Participateoninterview committees and hiring teams.
  • Participate in school improvement planning and implementation activities.
  • The Dean position shall not serve as an evaluator of certificated staff.
School Operations and Activities (10%)
  • Assist with supervision of school events and activities.
  • Support extracurricular programs and student activities.
  • Assist with school safety and emergency preparedness efforts.
  • Support operational initiatives as assigned by the principal.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the purpose of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Maryland Advanced Professional License is required.
  • Master’s Degree in related field is required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching or specialist experience is preferred.
  • Has obtained, is eligible for, or can demonstrate through completion of appropriate course work as working toward an Administrator I endorsement on current Advanced Professional License. Administrator I licensure is required within two years of appointment.
