Lloyd’s Insurance Company (LIC), branded as Lloyd’s Europe is currently looking to recruit a Country Manager for Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

The role holder is responsible for the implementation of Lloyd’s commercial strategy in these countries in a manner that achieves Lloyd’s operational, financial and regulatory requirements and ambitions. LIC as an insurance/ reinsurance company, operating as a legal separate entity with its own P&L, has its own governance structure with supervisory measures to ensure the efficient and prudent management of its business and employees.

Accountabilities
  • Successfully implement Lloyd’s commercial strategy in Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, focused on opening new distribution channels, expanding existing ones, attracting new capital and showcasing Lloyd’s value proposition to relevant audiences.

  • Collaborate with and support Lloyd’s General Representatives in Netherlands and Luxembourg.

  • Ensure operational excellence for Lloyd’s in Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands including compliance with relevant local laws and regulations, effective risk management and efficient processes.

  • Build and maintain key commercial relationships in Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands with key stakeholders including brokers, customers (including cedents), coverholders, managing agents, market associations and local regulators.

  • Support Lloyd’s long term European Market Strategy by connecting with key bodies and governments to strengthen Lloyd’s voice in Europe, leveraging the connections of Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands to the UK.

  • Monitor and analyse local market trends, competition and customer needs to inform the adaptation of commercial strategy to local market context.

  • Ensure Lloyd’s interests are protected including reporting and advising on any matters which may impact on Lloyd’s business.

Skills Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience in business development, strategy, management consulting, underwriting, (re) insurance or related market roles – with a thorough understanding of global (re) insurance value chains, customers, distributors, global distribution practices as well as product development and market dynamics.

  • Track record of consistent delivery against stated objectives.

  • Ability to cultivate and develop sound business relationships.

  • Experience presenting to or collaborating with senior external and internal stakeholder groups

  • Lloyd’s market structure, operations, financial and governance structure as well as the routes into Lloyd’s for both new risk and capital.

  • Local market dynamics and competitive positioning of key distributors, carriers and capital providers and the broader European market.

  • Financial, operational and risk management considerations and requirements.

  • Clarity on regulatory expectations including the principles from a prudential or conduct standpoints.

  • Sound knowledge of legal and compliance requirements for the country.

  • Awareness of effective marketing and communication strategies.

  • Awareness of the opportunities and challenges presented by digitisation, business model innovation, emerging risks, capital market and sustainability drivers.

  • Sales and business development skills enabling the post-holder to consistently identify mutually beneficial opportunities that align the interests of multiple stakeholders and drive positive action in support of Lloyd’s objectives.
