Job DescriptionDorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a School Social Worker opening for the school year within the Special Education Department. The School Social Worker will provide integral support to students and families by coordinating services, providing consultation related to regional and school-based behavioral programming, counseling students, participating in the DCPS Special Education Core Team structure, and collaborating across departments to promote student success.
DUTIES- Provides integrated, coordinated clinical case management services.
- Assesses student and family dynamics related to school success.
- Participates in IEP, MTSS teaming and administrative meetings.
- Provides consultative and crisis management services for DCPS as directed.
- Advocates for children and families within the school setting and with outside agencies.
- Collaborates with community agencies to foster student success.
- Identifies and develops resources and services to meet community needs.
- Facilitates effective delivery of on-site resources and services.
- Facilitates social skills lessons for students using a social skills curriculum.
- Participates in local/county organizations, representing the Community Agency School Services program goals and objectives.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
- Master’s Degree in Social Work or Social Welfare.
- Certification as a Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical (LCSW-C) pursuant to COMAR 13A.12.04.11.
- Must have completed 3 semester hours or state-approved CPD credits in special education coursework pursuant to COMAR 13A.12.04.11.
- Three (3) years’ experience as an LCSW or LCSW-C, preferred.
- Demonstrated effective and accurate written and oral communication skills.
- Advanced familiarity with various computer applications and software is essential.
- Understanding of professional ethics and behavior.
- Self-directed and able to develop and implement programs.
- Public speaking skills.
- Experience in the mental health field.
- Understanding of community resources.
- Previous school social work experience.
