Position Summary

Mass Bio is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join its finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional who is looking to build broad, hands-on accounting experience and grow into increasing responsibility over time. The Staff Accountant will support the organization’s accounting operations and monthly close process, with responsibility for journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, audit preparation, and selected accounts payable and cash receipts processing responsibilities.

This role offers the opportunity to work closely with finance leadership, receive strong mentorship, gain meaningful exposure across core accounting functions, and develop a strong foundation in a collaborative, mission-driven environment. This is a hybrid role based in Cambridge, MA, offering a mix of in-office collaboration (three days per week) and remote flexibility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, reclasses, and other recurring entries
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations and investigate and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner
  • Maintain supporting schedules for balance sheet and income statement accounts
  • Assist with monthly and year-end close activities
  • Support revenue and deferred revenue-related accounting processes, including preparation of schedules, tie-outs, and supporting documentation
  • Process accounts payable transactions and support payment processing activities
  • Process and apply cash receipts and support accounts receivable-related activities
  • Assist with monitoring accounts receivable aging and preparing information for follow-up on outstanding balances
  • Support preparation of audit schedules, work papers, and other documentation for external auditors
  • Help ensure the accuracy and completeness of the general ledger
  • Assist with documenting accounting processes and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and strengthen internal controls
  • Partner with finance leadership on ad hoc analyses, reporting, and special projects as needed
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 1–3 years of accounting experience, including internships or early-career public accounting or industry experience
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and general ledger accounting
  • Experience with journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close support preferred
  • Proficiency in Excel and comfort learning new systems
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to learn in a collaborative environment
  • Experience with accounting software or ERP systems preferred
Ideal Candidate
  • Eager to build a strong foundation in accounting and take on increasing responsibility over time
  • Interested in gaining broad exposure across core accounting functions rather than working in a narrowly defined role
  • Comfortable working in a hands‑on environment and learning new areas of accounting
  • Organized, dependable, and detail-oriented
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Compensation
  • The expected salary range for this role is $75,000- $85,000 per year. Offer amounts are determined by factors such as experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law. Salary will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, training, and market. Benefits include employer-sponsored 401k, and competitive healthcare plans.
