Position: Grant Writer (Independent Contractor - Project-based)

About The Community Group: The Community Group (TCG) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to create, manage, and nurture high quality programs focused on education and related services that support families. TCG operates early childhood and school age childcare programs, a childcare resource and referral program, training and workforce development programs and holds a management contract with Community Day Charter Public School.

Overview

We are searching for a contract/freelance Grant Writer to provide professional grant research, writing, and submission services on a temporary, project-specific basis.

About The Position

This is a temporary, project-based independent contractor (1099) position, operating remotely. Compensation will be a flat project fee or hourly contract rate. The selected contractor will be engaged for a defined scope of work related to specific funding opportunities and deliverables.

Scope of Work
  • Develop and draft comprehensive and concise grant proposals that meet funder requirements and align with our organizational mission and values as assigned
  • Collaborate with designated organizational contacts to obtain required program and financial information
  • Prepare budgets and budget narratives in coordination with organizational contacts
  • Ensure timely submission of proposals in accordance with funder requirements
  • Revise proposals based on feedback, if applicable
  • Provide post-submission materials if required within the agreed scope

Specific deliverables, timelines, and milestones will be outlined in a written Independent Contractor Agreement prior to engagement.

Independent Contractor Status
  • Will maintain control over the manner and means of completing the work
  • Will set their own work schedule
  • May perform services for other clients during the contract term
  • Will use their own equipment and workspace
  • Will not be eligible for employee benefits
  • Will be responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and business expenses
  • Will receive a Form 1099-NEC (if applicable)

Nothing in this posting or subsequent agreement shall be construed to create an employer-employee relationship, partnership, or joint venture.

Compensation

Compensation will be a flat project fee or hourly contract rate, based on experience, scope of project or work, and will be determined at the time of selection.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience writing and securing grants
  • Strong research, writing, and editing skills
  • Experience working independently and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to manage project timelines with minimal supervision
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in writing grants for early childhood or K-12 educational programs.
  • Experience writing and securing state and federal grants
  • Proven track record of achieving successful grant awards
