The Role

Moderna continues to expand its innovative mRNA platform, unlocking new applications across diseases and therapeutic areas. As the company advances its oncology pipeline, this Director of Strategic Forecasting will lead global revenue forecasting for its oncology portfolio, spanning early research through launch readiness. This high‑impact individual contributor role sits within the Commercial organization and supports investment decisions, portfolio planning, and long‑range forecasting for pipeline assets as well as operational US forecasting for intismeran.

The Director partners closely with R&D, Commercial, Finance, and CMC to deliver operational and strategic forecasts, scenario plans, and market insights that shape Moderna’s direction in oncology.

Here’s What You’ll Do
  • Partner with alliance stakeholders at Merck to develop strategic and operational forecasts for intismeran and define KPIs to track launch performance.
  • Develop revenue forecasts focused on the oncology pipeline to inform decision‑making from preclinical research through commercialization.
  • Deliver scenario analyses and contextualize uncertainty to support key strategic decisions and leadership planning.
  • Generate deep insights on products and markets through secondary and primary research and data analytics.
  • Serve as a forecasting partner to cross‑functional stakeholders in R&D, Finance, CMC, and Commercial to contribute forecasting insights in cross‑functional forums.
  • Drive integration of program‑level forecasts into broader portfolio models and long‑range planning frameworks, in close collaboration with Finance and Strategy teams.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, competitive developments, and market dynamics to provide forward‑looking insights and shape strategic planning.
  • Support portfolio investment decisions by delivering evidence‑based forecasts and scenario models that reflect market dynamics and clinical development risk.
Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)
  • 8+ years of experience in forecasting, analytics or strategic planning within the biopharmaceutical or life sciences industry, with exposure to multiple stages of drug development.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, life sciences, or a related field.
  • Strong expertise in revenue forecasting, including applications across pipeline programs, inline products, and enterprise planning.
  • Experience supporting LRP, LE, or other enterprise‑level financial and operational planning processes.
  • Experience gathering and integrating secondary research, primary research, and data analytics to inform forecasting assumptions and strategic questions.
  • Strong familiarity with oncology market dynamics.
  • Knowledge of oncology‑specific datasets covering market landscape, competitive intelligence, real‑world product utilization, and prescription behavior.

What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Advanced degree (MBA, MS, PhD) preferred.
  • Launch performance metrics development experience a plus.
  • Prior consulting and/or market research/CI/analytics experience is a plus.
  • Prior oncology forecasting experience strongly preferred, particularly in early‑stage or novel modalities.
  • Strategic thinking skills with the ability to synthesize complex data into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Proven ability to partner cross‑functionally and influence stakeholders across R&D, Commercial, and Finance.
  • Expertise in building and interpreting strategic forecasts, portfolio models, and scenario planning analyses; specific oncology experience preferred.
  • Advanced analytics capability with executive‑level communication—ability to work with large, complex datasets (e.g., claims or prescription drug use databases) to inform model inputs and generate robust forecast ranges.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to effectively present insights and recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Curiosity mindset in applying the latest technological developments, including GenAI, to enhance forecasting tools and processes.
