Local Inspector - PT (Inspectional Services)Reporting to the Building Commissioner, the Local Inspector is responsible for examining plans for building construction repairs and alteration to existing buildings to determine compliance with State Codes, local Zoning Bylaws, and other applicable regulations, and issuing appropriate permits. Inspect new buildings and repairs, and alterations of existing buildings during construction and upon completion, for conformity with all code requirements, approved plans, and zoning restrictions.
Conduct periodic inspections of existing buildings, as required by statute. Review plans for approval and provide the Building Commissioner with information regarding recommendations for approval. Respond to citizen complaints and mediate disputes; investigate alleged violations and take necessary action; maintain detailed records of inspections and investigations; answer questions from the general public and officials pertaining to the Building Code, zoning and flood plain issues.
Requirements:
Five years of experience in the supervision of building construction or design and zoning enforcement; or an Associate’s Degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, in accordance with MGL c 143. Must possess Massachusetts Certification as a Local Building Inspector.
