Job Description & How to Apply Below

We are partnered with a highly respected, family‑owned general contractor in the Greater Boston area seeking an experienced Estimator to join its growing preconstruction team.

Established nearly 60 years ago, the company has developed a strong reputation for delivering complex construction projects throughout Boston and New England. Now led by its third generation of family leadership, the business combines the stability and personal culture of a family‑owned contractor with the capabilities and project portfolio of a much larger organization.

The company has built its reputation through quality work, long‑term client partnerships, and a hands‑on approach from early preconstruction through project completion. Its portfolio includes projects across:

  • Healthcare and occupied hospital environments
  • Higher education and academic facilities
  • Life sciences, laboratories, and research facilities
  • Corporate and commercial construction
  • Hospitality
  • Defense and highly regulated environments
  • Site development, utilities, and civil construction
The Opportunity

The Estimator will play an important role in supporting the company’s continued growth, working closely with senior preconstruction leadership, project executives, operations teams, subcontractors, and clients.

This position is well suited for an estimator who wants to remain hands‑on while gaining exposure to technically challenging projects and a broad range of market sectors. The successful candidate will be involved throughout the estimating lifecycle, from conceptual budgeting and early design development through final bid and turnover to operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare conceptual, schematic, design‑development, and construction‑document estimates
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop comprehensive project pricing
  • Review drawings, specifications, narratives, and other contract documents
  • Solicit, analyze, and level subcontractor and supplier proposals
  • Identify scope gaps, project risks, value‑engineering opportunities, and constructability concerns
  • Develop clear scopes of work and bid packages
  • Maintain relationships with subcontractors and vendors throughout Greater Boston
  • Participate in preconstruction meetings, scope reviews, and client presentations
  • Collaborate with project management and field teams during estimate turnover
  • Maintain accurate historical cost information and market intelligence
  • Support negotiated, competitive‑bid, and construction‑management pursuits
Ideal Background
  • Several years of estimating or preconstruction experience with a commercial general contractor or construction manager
  • Experience estimating healthcare, higher education, life sciences, institutional, corporate, or similarly complex projects
  • Strong understanding of commercial building systems, construction methods, and subcontractor scopes
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously
  • Proficiency with takeoff, estimating, and document‑management software
  • Strong subcontractor relationships within the Greater Boston market
  • Detail‑oriented, collaborative, and comfortable taking ownership of assignments
  • Interested in joining a stable company and building a long‑term career
Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is not a high‑turnover environment or a company where employees become another number. The organization has maintained its family‑owned identity while continuing to expand its capabilities, project portfolio, and presence throughout New England.

Employees benefit from direct access to leadership, meaningful responsibility, and the ability to contribute to projects that have a visible impact across the region. The culture emphasizes teamwork, respect, quality, safety, and long‑term relationships with both employees and clients.

Compensation

$135,000–$175,000, depending on experience.
