East Middle School is seeking dedicated and qualified candidates to join our team as a Special Education Teacher in the Pathways Program. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral growth of middle school students whose primary needs are related to social-emotional learning and self-regulation.
Program DescriptionTeachers in the Pathways Program provide instruction designed to support students with social-emotional and behavioral needs. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong special education practice, skill in behavior and SEL-based interventions, and a commitment to fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities- Design and implement individualized instruction aligned with students’ IEP goals, grade-level standards, and social-emotional learning objectives
- Provide targeted instruction in self-regulation, coping strategies, social skills, executive functioning, and behavioral skill development
- Implement proactive behavior supports and restorative practices to promote positive student outcomes
- Collaborate with content teachers, administrators, school psychologists, and other support staff
- Supervise and support assigned paraprofessionals to ensure consistent and effective program implementation
- Maintain compliance with all special education requirements, including IEP implementation, progress monitoring, and documentation
- Communicate effectively with families, general education staff, and administrators regarding student progress
- Foster a positive, structured, and predictable classroom environment that promotes emotional safety, accountability, and growth
- Massachusetts teaching license in Moderate or Severe Disabilities
- Experience working with students with social-emotional and behavioral needs
- Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and apply SEL-informed and trauma-responsive practices
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and high expectations for all learners
