position detailsthe theatre and dance department at california polytechnic state university, san luis obispo, is inviting applications for a pool of part-time lecturers in the dance program. Positions are available based on need and funding during the fall, winter, and/or spring quarters of the academic year, starting september 11, 2025. Teaching assignments depend on budget and enrollment and may include activity classes in ballet, ballroom, tap, modern, jazz, hip-hop, pilates/conditioning, and folk dance, as well as lecture classes in dance appreciation (lower-division) or cultural influence on dance in america (upper-division).
salaryand rank
initial rank and salary are determined by professional experience and educational background, with most new hires at lecturer a or b. As of july 2024, salary ranges are:
- lecturer a: $5,507-$6,677
- lecturer b: $6,221-$13,224
- lecturer c: $6,825-$14,523
- lecturer d: $8,593-$15,221

qualificationsrequired: bachelor's degree for activity/lab classes; advanced degree (ma, mfa, ph.d.) and university-level teaching experience in dance-centered studies or dance composition and technique for lecture classes.
preferred: university-level teaching experience, ph.d. In dance-centered studies or related fields, mfa in dance composition and technique.
additional conditionsall csu employees are mandated reporters under california law. A background check is required after a conditional offer. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of this process.
