Middle School Science Teacher

Overview

Buckingham Browne & Nichols School is seeking a full-time Middle School Science teacher to work closely with a team of science teachers co-creating, evaluating, and teaching Science 7 (introductory physical science) and Science 8 (introductory chemistry). The BB&N Middle School consists of Grades 7 and 8. We are seeking a knowledgeable Science teacher to teach 3-4 classes across both grades, who values student voice and agency, and utilizes a variety of pedagogical approaches to facilitating student learning.

Other faculty member responsibilities encompass advising in our co-curricular advisory program and contributing to current program needs through coaching, supporting the athletic program, and/or potentially the Science Club.

• Planning and developing an engaging, age-appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to educational best practices and curriculum guidelines.
• Preparing materials for lessons, assignments, and tests; evaluates, corrects, and grades student performance.
• Supervising the behavior of students in the classroom, school grounds, and educational trips, and discussing academic difficulties or behavioral challenges with students as they arise.
• Monitoring students’ progress throughout the year.
• Communicating progress and concerns with tact and professionalism to parents and, as appropriate, other faculty, staff, and/or campus leadership.
• Building and maintaining positive relationships with parents, students, and colleagues.
• Enforcing safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitors.
• Maintaining required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records.
• Monitoring halls, study periods, and lunch with other faculty and staff.
• Participating in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars.
• Maintaining knowledge of research, developments, and best practices.
• Performing related tasks such as sponsoring student activities or organizations, including athletics.
• Other duties as assigned.

• The ideal candidate will have a degree in Science or a related field. A Bachelor’s degree is required. While a Master’s Degree in Science and at least four years of experience teaching Science at the middle school level are preferred, we understand that not every great teacher’s path to teaching is linear.
