Position Summary

Brooks seeks a dynamic and enthusiastic History Teacher for the  academic year. The ideal candidate will have flexibility and willingness to teach Modern World and Pre‑Modern or AP United States history courses. This full‑time faculty position includes teaching four sections, coaching two seasons of afternoon programs, supporting the residential life program, and, beginning in the second year, serving as a student advisor.

Experience coaching at the varsity level—especially in soccer and squash—will be prioritized. Candidates who are skilled in culturally responsive educational practices and committed to fostering inclusion and belonging are highly desirable.

Essential Functions & Key Objectives
  • Be self‑directed with a strong work ethic.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and achievement.
  • Apply engaging, innovative, student‑centered teaching practices that balance the development of writing skills, conceptual understanding, appropriate use of technology, and opportunities for critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Work collaboratively with other History department members to develop courses that are consistent and coordinated across the four‑year curriculum.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset and a commitment to ongoing learning about best pedagogical practices for working with adolescent students.
  • Engage in DEIB professional development and assist in advancing the school’s commitment to becoming an anti‑racist institution; serve as a role model in promoting a positive, productive, and inclusive work environment.
  • Use technology to enhance instruction and student learning.
  • Stay informed about ongoing developments in the subject area through conferences and other professional growth opportunities.
  • Commit to school‑wide initiatives, campus involvement, and the lives of students outside of the classroom.
  • Be proficient in teaching writing both in classroom and one‑on‑one settings.
  • Teach critical thinking skills and support original idea generation.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries while practicing patience and empathy with adolescent students.
Responsibilities
  • Teach four sections of History.
  • Advise an average of seven students, beginning in year two.
  • Participate in the residential life of the school with related duties.
  • Participate in two seasons of afternoon programs.
Education & Experience
  • Three or more years of teaching experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • Education or experience related to Pre‑Modern, Modern World History, and/or AP United States History preferred; experience teaching East Asian history also preferred.
