Excel Tutoring:
Lead Tutor

Cambridge Public Schools Office of Academics – Cambridge, Massachusetts

Job

The Excel Tutoring program launched in the 2023‑2024 school year to provide additional after‑school academic support to students who need it most. Now in its third year, the program supports hundreds of students across our elementary and upper schools.

The program is an in‑person, after‑school, high‑impact tutoring program that uses intensive, relationship‑based, personalized instruction to accelerate learning for students who are performing two or more grade levels below expectations.

Program Structure

We offer two 10‑week sessions throughout the school year. Lead tutors can work one or two sessions and support educators at sites with high tutoring support needs. Lead tutors review data with tutors, monitor student progress, co‑design intervention plans, and support caregiver communication. They set the tone at the tutoring site and facilitate school‑based professional learning for tutors.

  • Session I: 10/6/25 – 12/19/25
  • Session II: 2/9/26 – 5/8/26

Staff professional learning weeks:

  • Week of 9/29 for Session I preparation
  • Week of 2/2/26 for Session II preparation

Schedule:

Tuesdays & Thursdays from school dismissal until late bus.
