Two-way immersion develops high levels of academic achievement, bilingualism, and cultural competencies among students and contributes to the long‑term preparation of students for the global economy.
Bringing culturally diverse students together in situations in which each has equal status spurs motivation and promotes cohesion, community building, and cooperation.
- Work cooperatively with grade‑level, cluster, and whole‑school teams of teachers, including specialists in the areas of ESL, SSL, and Special Education.
- Plan and implement an academically and linguistically active curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and socially/culturally responsive to the needs of the dual language student population.
- Have experience planning, implementing, and adapting an ongoing curriculum, which is based on the Massachusetts State Frameworks, as well as the local Cambridge Learning Expectations for third grade.
- Work collaboratively with parents and guardians to engage them in classroom activities and school‑wide events.
- Be a thoughtful and reflective practitioner who demonstrates intellectual curiosity by asking insightful questions.
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university, including coursework in first and second language acquisition.
- High levels or native language proficiency in Spanish and English, including listening, speaking, reading, grammar and writing.
- Familiarity with and appreciation of third‑grade students, their needs, and interests.
- Previous and successful experience working in a multicultural environment and demonstrated implementation of culturally responsive practices that includes students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio‑economic backgrounds.
- Creativity and passion for dual language and anti‑racist teaching.
- Appropriate Massachusetts Certification:
Foreign Language Certification 1‑6 (Spanish), Elementary 1‑6.
