Building Substitute

At Haggerty, we believe that learning unfolds when we provide conditions in which children can explore, inquire, and shape their own understandings. The school values the culture and beliefs that each child brings to the classroom, and teachers believe that children must engage with their world in order to make sense of it and build their knowledge. Each student is expected to take responsibility for his/her own learning while collaborating, supporting, and respecting others.

We are committed to relationships and rapport being foundational to the conditions needed for successful collegiality, caregiver engagement, and student success.

The Building Substitute is responsible for taking over the classroom instructional duties as well as specialists’ classes. Additionally, the Building Substitute may be required to provide instructional support for students with disabilities in accordance with their IEP. They should be able to develop lessons, use technology, and work in a team teaching environment. The Building Substitute keeps appropriate records, provides support at lunch and recess, offers a safe, nurturing environment for students, and establishes clear expectations for behavior and learning.

Other related duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s Degree or higher. Teaching experience in an urban setting with diverse student populations. Strong listening, communication, and collaborative skills for working with faculty, students and caregivers.
