Summary Description

Buckingham Browne & Nichols School is seeking a part-time (80%), dynamic, student-centered Upper School English teacher to cover a leave of absence from October 2026 to January 2027. The English teacher will teach two sections of English 9, one section of an AP English Literature elective, and two trimester-long English 12 electives. We are seeking a knowledgeable English teacher who values student voice and agency, utilizes a variety of pedagogical approaches, can work independently, and is excited to work as part of a team in curriculum development.

Candidates should be comfortable working with colleagues in designing, innovating, and delivering a curriculum that incorporates skill development, metacognition, and cultural competency, and that caters to a range of student learners. Additional responsibilities will vary according to current program needs and new initiatives as determined by the Department Chair and the Upper School Director.

  • Plans and develops an engaging, age-appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to educational best practices and curriculum guidelines.
  • Prepares materials for lessons, assignments, and tests; evaluates, corrects, and grades student performance.
  • Supervises the behavior of students in the classroom, school grounds, and educational trips and discusses academic difficulties or behavioral problems with students as they arise.
  • Communicates progress and concerns with tact and professionalism to parents and, as appropriate, other faculty, staff, and/or campus Director.
