Fletcher-Maynard Academy

About the School: Fletcher-Maynard Academy is an inclusive, student‑centered elementary school serving students from Pre‑K to Grade 5 in the heart of Cambridge. The school is committed to equity, innovation, and academic excellence, fostering a positive, professional, and collaborative environment where students thrive through strong relationships, engaging instruction, and a holistic approach.

The Opportunity: The instructional aide will work as an assistant teacher under the direction of the classroom teacher and the principal. The aide will assist the teacher in providing instruction to students in both Spanish and English, and in planning and developing a positive learning environment that focuses on high academic achievement in two languages. In addition, the aide will work with pupils individually and in small group activities, create instructional materials, and assist with recess and lunch supervision.

The successful candidate will collaborate with grade‑level, cluster, and whole‑school teams of teachers, including specialists in ESL, SSL, and Special Education. The candidate must help implement an academically and linguistically active curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and socially/culturally responsive to the dual‑language student population.

Your Skill Set
  • Associate’s degree, or 48 college credits from an accredited institution
  • High levels of native language proficiency in Spanish and English (listening, speaking, reading, grammar, and writing)
  • Willingness to be trained in de‑escalation and safe physical restraint techniques
  • Physical ability to work on the floor and move around the room to support students and teachers in curriculum implementation, use of manipulatives, and other instructional methods and materials
  • Previous and successful experience working in a multicultural environment, with demonstrated implementation of culturally responsive practices for students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio‑economic backgrounds
