Assistant Principal of Academics, Grades 9-12
Cambridge Rindge & Latin School Community:
Cambridge Rindge & Latin School (CRLS) is a comprehensive high school divided into four Learning Communities designed to promote high levels of learning and achievement for all students. Honors courses are offered in all core classes (English, History, Mathematics, and Science);
Advanced Placement (AP) courses are available to qualified students in grades 11 and 12.

The Assistant Principal of Academics will report directly to the Principal and will work cooperatively with the Assistant Principal of Student Affairs, Deans of Curriculum, and Deans of Students to build a positive, effective school-wide climate and to develop and support student activities within a comprehensive program that enhances student engagement and achievement, thus helping all students meet Cambridge Rindge and Latin School academic, social, and civic learning expectations.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Provide instructional leadership centered on advancing educational equity, achieving instructional excellence, and closing identified opportunity gaps, fully aligned with the Cambridge Public Schools strategic plan, the CRLS School Improvement Plan, and the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
- Facilitate meetings of Deans of Curriculum to drive the work of implementing high-quality curriculum and instruction that supports student achievement and growth.
- Coach teachers on setting goals, designing lessons, analyzing student work, working collaboratively and growing professionally.
- Promote a school culture of equity, belonging, and inclusion, including racial equity, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and support for diverse learning needs.
- Supervise and evaluate a caseload of staff.
- Design and lead professional development.
- Coach the leadership team in consistent supervision and evaluation practices.
- Supervise the Enhanced Senior Year teacher and work closely with them to expand the program.
- Establish and maintain school-wide expectations across multiple sections of common courses including but not limited to grading practices and learning experiences.
- Establish systems of communication, education, and support for the community of Cambridge to ensure that all stakeholders have a deep understanding of the instructional focus and goals of classrooms.
- Team with department leads including but not limited to Career and Technical Education, Special Education, and Multilingual Learning to work towards a more integrated experience for all students.
- Use software both to source data and to create graphic representations identifying areas of need.
- Support other building leaders in analyzing the results of local, state and national student assessment data to improve student performance and disrupt inequities.
- Guide staff in data collection processes that facilitate effective formative assessment and instructional adjustments.
- Support the preparation for and administration of CPS surveys including but not limited to Student & Staff Climate Survey,
- Support the preparation for and administration of standardized testing at CRLS including but not limited to MCAS, PSAT, SAT, and AP.
- Appoint and support/supervise the Saturday SAT Coordinator.
- Supervise and evaluate the coordinator of standardized testing.
- Set proctoring schedules, testing locations, and calendaring of exams and infrastructure/practice/pre-test events in collaboration with the coordinator of standardized testing.
- Conduct evaluations and participate in hiring committees.
- Supervise a lunch period.
- Chair the CRLS Calendar Committee.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Master's degree with coursework in educational administration; five years teaching/administrative experience, preferably in a diverse urban, multicultural, multilingual setting. Required Massachusetts licensure/certification:
Principal/Assistant Principal 9-12.
A deep understanding of dismantling inequitable systems in education. Familiarity and experience with a wide range of curricula as well as how to review curriculum and ensure the use of HQIM. Understanding of diverse methods of instruction for all courses (from language & performing arts, to science labs and Socratic Seminars in English or History classes).
