TheOpportunity
The instructional aide will work as an assistant teacher under the direction of the classroom teacher and the principal. The aide will assist the teacher in providing instruction to students in both Spanish and English, and in planning and developing a positive learning environment that focuses on high academic achievement in two languages. In addition, the aide will work with pupils individually and in small group activities, make and prepare instructional materials, and assist with recess and lunch supervision.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with grade-level, cluster, and whole-school teams of teachers, including specialists in areas such as ESL, SSL, and Special Education. The successful candidate must help implement an academically and linguistically active curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and socially/culturally responsive to the needs of the dual language student population.
Your Skill SetAs the incoming Instructional Aide, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:
- Associates degree, or 48 college credits from an accredited college or university
- High levels or native language proficiency in Spanish and English, including listening, speaking, reading, grammar, and writing.
- Willingness to be trained in de-escalation and safe physical restraint techniques.
- Must have the physical ability to work on the floor and move around the room to support students and teachers in curriculum implementation, use of manipulatives, and other instructional methods and materials.
- Previous and successful experience working in a multicultural environment and demonstrated implementation of culturally responsive practices that include students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
