Job DescriptionPosition:
Instructional Aide, SCALE (7.5 hours/11 months) at Haggerty School / Office of Student Services.
The Office of Student Services provides support to students with disabilities and advanced learning needs. SCALE (Social, Communication, Academic, and Life Skills Education) is an eleven‑month intensive program for scholars who require specialized instruction. The instructional aide works in a specialized classroom setting, mainly assisting the special educator with implementing each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
Key Responsibilities- Assist with instruction for students with disabilities.
- Supervise students during non‑instructional activities and transitions.
- Collaborate with general education, special education, and related services staff.
- Accommodate and modify instruction to support student learning and assist the general education teacher in implementing appropriate accommodations.
- Perform related duties as designated by the special educator or supervisor.
- Provide toileting support for students as required.
- Excellent oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem‑solving ability.
- Experience working with students in urban environments.
- Energetic, enthusiastic, patient, and flexible.
- Support physical, educational, and social‑emotional needs of students.
- Willingness to be trained in de‑escalation and safe physical restraint techniques.
- Physical ability to work on the floor and move around the room to support students and teachers.
Associates degree or 48 college credits from an accredited college or university preferred. Previous Montessori training or experience preferred.
