Job Description
Position:
Teacher Special Educator, Office of Student Services, Cambridgeport School, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Starting Date:
September 1, 2026.
Cambridgeport School fosters a learning environment where students explore, inquire, and shape their own understanding, emphasizing collaboration, responsibility, and respect.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide direct special education services to students with disabilities.
- Deliver explicit instruction and support in reading, literacy, math, written language, and social‑emotional behavior.
- Progress‑monitor student mastery of IEP goals and objectives using various assessments and data‑collection tools.
- Develop Individualized Education Programs based on students’ present levels of functioning and performance.
- Teach using systematic, structured, multisensory approaches.
- Collaborate with general education, special education, related services, and support staff.
- Utilize a co‑teaching model and accommodate students in the general education setting.
- Administer formal and informal assessments and analyze data for instruction decisions.
- Ensure implementation of students’ Individualized Education Plans.
- Maintain effective collaboration with families, community supports, and related service staff.
- Other related duties as outlined by the Assistant Superintendent, Special Education Director, and/or Coordinator of the Office of Student Services.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
- Broad knowledge of programs and services for students’ areas of eligibility (autism, academic, behavior, learning, etc.).
- Professional knowledge of state eligibility requirements.
- Above‑average collaboration skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience collaborating and supporting parents and families.
- Problem‑solving ability.
- Understanding of inclusive educational practices and co‑teaching approaches.
- Familiarity with formal and informal assessments for monitoring progress.
- Knowledge of state and federal special education guidelines.
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education (required);
Master’s preferred; concentration in learning disabilities preferred. - Massachusetts Certification for students with mild/moderate special needs, Pre‑K–8 (required).
- Experience teaching or student‑teaching in an urban school setting.
- Specialized training in a foundational reading program such as Orton‑Gillingham or Wilson Reading.
