Position: World Language Dept Head/Middle School Spanish Teacher (AY26-27)

Middle School World Language Department Head/Spanish Teacher

Buckingham Browne & Nichols School is seeking a full-time Middle School World Language Department Head/Spanish Teacher to lead our Middle School World Language Department. The BB&N Middle School consists of Grades 7 and 8. We are seeking a thoughtful, collaborative leader and experienced Spanish teacher to teach 3 classes across both grades, who values student voice and agency, and utilizes a variety of current pedagogical approaches to facilitating student learning.

Other faculty member responsibilities encompass advising in our co-curricular advisory program and contributing to the program as needed.

Key functions for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading the MS World Language Department of four faculty members in the development of programs.
  • Supporting the ongoing work on proficiency assessments and benchmarks.
  • With the department, planning and developing an engaging, age-appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to educational best practices and curriculum guidelines.
  • Collaboratively preparing materials for lessons, assignments, and tests; evaluates, corrects, and grades student performance.
  • Supervising the behavior of students in the classroom, school grounds, and educational trips, and discussing academic difficulties or behavioral challenges with students as they arise.
  • Monitoring students' progress throughout the year.
  • Communicating progress and concerns with tact and professionalism to parents and, as appropriate, other faculty, staff, and/or campus leadership.
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with parents, students, and colleagues.
  • Enforcing safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitors.
  • Maintaining required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records.
  • Monitoring halls, study periods, and lunch with other faculty and staff.
  • Participating in department head meetings, faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars.
  • Performing related tasks such as sponsoring student activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements, Skills, and

Competencies:

  • The ideal candidate will have a degree in Spanish, Spanish Education, or a related field. A Bachelor's degree is required, and a Master's is preferred. Proficiency in Spanish is required. Preference will be given to teachers with 5-7 years of classroom teaching experience. Proficiency in a third language is a plus.

Salary: $69,500.00 - $

BB&N offers competitive salaries and benefits, employing equitable and consistent compensation practices. The starting salary for any hired candidate is based on experience within salary bands.
