The OpportunityThe principal reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education and is responsible for leading the day‑to‑day operations of the school, ensuring that educators, staff, partners, and volunteers provide a nurturing, safe, and supportive environment. The principal fosters equity, inclusion, belonging, and anti‑racism, leads the school community toward high expectations for all, and values community, strong family partnerships, and collaborative relationships with educators.
Key Responsibilities Instructional Leadership- Set high expectations for high‑quality instructional practices at all levels.
- Develop and implement the school improvement plan aligned with the district’s strategic plan.
- Guide the development and implementation of effective curriculum, instruction, and assessment, along with target interventions, to prepare students as self‑directed learners for secondary school, college, and career success.
- Evaluate and oversee the development and implementation of instructional programs and activities.
- Develop and implement an effective daily schedule and student activities.
- Recruit, hire, supervise, develop, and evaluate educators and school staff.
- Implement all relevant district, state, and national policies, regulations, and procedures.
- Facilitate proactive and effective two‑way communication with families and staff.
- Ensure effective onboarding orientation for children, families, staff, and volunteers.
- Conduct frequent and ongoing classroom observations with curriculum leaders to monitor, coach, and support educators and staff. Coach and develop the assistant principal into an instructional leader.
- Plan effective and relevant professional development aligned with the district’s vision and focused initiatives.
- Conduct educator and staff evaluations (goal setting, observation, feedback) to ensure support and continuous improvement in professional practice.
- Be responsible for reaching improvement targets as outlined by the district.
- Analyze and report on student performance assessments as a basis for curriculum improvement and staff development needs.
- Implement effective data team meetings aligned with the district’s data team meeting framework.
- Establish and lead a culture that results in a love of learning, student agency, and a full range of student growth.
- Build an engaged, respectful, and inclusive school community.
- Create a culture that encourages team members to innovate, eliminating equity gaps and making college and career readiness an expectation for all students.
- Lead the selection, supervision, and evaluation of educators and staff.
- Manage the approved budget.
- Monitor school facility maintenance, service, and needs.
- Monitor custodial services to ensure a clean, healthy, and safe learning environment.
- Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of required reports and maintain all appropriate records, including accurate discipline and attendance records.
