Fletcher-Maynard Academy is an inclusive, student‑centered elementary school serving students from PreK to Grade 5 in the heart of Cambridge. The school is committed to equity, innovation, and academic excellence, fostering a positive, professional, and collaborative environment.
The Fletcher‑Maynard Principal reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education and is responsible for leading the day‑to‑day operations of the school to provide a nurturing, safe, and supportive environment where children’s self‑esteem is enhanced, independence encouraged, and individuality respected. The Principal is committed to fostering equity, inclusion, and belonging and leading the school community toward becoming an anti‑racist community through shared vision, aligned goals, and courageous conversations.
The Principal works collaboratively with the Executive Leadership Team and other school and district leaders to meet organizational goals, cultivate emerging leaders, and maintain high expectations for all students.
Key Responsibilities- Instructional Leadership:
Set expectations for high‑quality instruction, develop and implement the school improvement plan aligned with the district’s strategic plan, guide curriculum, instruction, and assessment, and lead students to become self‑directed learners. - Technical and Professional Knowledge:
Evaluate and oversee instructional programs, develop daily schedules, recruit, hire, supervise, develop, and evaluate educators and staff, and implement relevant district, state, and national policies. - Proactive Leadership:
Facilitate communication with families and staff, ensure effective onboarding, conduct classroom observations, coach leaders, plan professional development, conduct educator evaluations, and meet improvement targets. - Critical Thinking:
Analyze and report on student assessments, implement effective data meetings aligned with the district framework. - School Culture:
Lead a culture of learning, student agency, and growth; build an inclusive community; encourage innovation to eliminate equity gaps. - Managerial:
Lead selection and evaluation of staff, manage budget, monitor facility maintenance and custodial services, maintain records and discipline reports. - Facilitation:
Guide task accomplishment, plan staff meetings, facilitate problem solving, counsel parents and staff. - Parent/Family Connections:
Build positive relationships with families, collaborate with families to strengthen the program, engage the School Council, respect family uniqueness. - Professionalism:
Uphold district policies, maintain professional habits, communicate positive aspects of CPS, attend leadership meetings, continue professional growth. - Student Growth and Stability:
Implement CPS curricular systems, hire diverse staff, develop systems supporting student growth.
This is a full‑time, in‑person, exempt position with a 217‑day work year. The role requires flexibility, including evening and weekend commitments. Exempt employees are not eligible for overtime compensation under the FLSA.
