Job Summary

Independently plan and implement academic affairs operations including faculty support, curriculum management and training.

Curriculum and Pedagogy Manager Responsibilities

Supports the General Chemistry courses (LPS A and PS11) offered by the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology. Works closely with course heads to develop and deliver innovative curricula, organize and manage a team of graduate and undergraduate teaching staff, and report to the Director of Undergraduate Studies.

Curriculum Development
  • Works with Course Head Instructor(s) to revise the course syllabus, schedule, learning objectives and reading assignments.
  • Works with Director of Laboratory Instructional Programs to update labs and optimize experiments.
  • Creates/updates section materials for use by teaching staff.
  • Experiments with and implements new pedagogical approaches.
Assessment, Assignments, Problem Sets
  • Works with Course Head Instructor(s) to develop student assessments including in‑class assignments, problem sets, midterms and final exams.
  • Creates practice exams and answer keys.
  • Creates answer keys for problem sets and exams; contributes to grading rubrics.
  • May provide instructional support and broader course development needs as required.
Course Management and Coordination
  • Supervises the Head Administration TF to create, manage and update the course Canvas site with syllabus, assignments, assessments and other materials.
  • Supervises the Head Lab TF to coordinate the lab component with Teaching Lab Staff: requests necessary lab materials, organizes lab run‑throughs and provides hands‑on help when needed.
  • Answers student and teaching staff emails.
Teaching Staff Hiring, Training and Management
  • Updates position descriptions, solicits applications and interviews candidates for TAs, TFs, CAs and Peer Study Leaders.
  • Runs training sessions for TA/TF/CA and Peer Study Leaders; coordinates with the BOK Center for additional teaching training and feedback.
  • Schedules, plans and runs weekly staff meetings with the Head Teaching Staff.
  • Addresses and resolves teaching staff concerns, conflicts and performance issues.
Student Support
  • Hosts weekly office hours.
  • Meets with students 1:1.
  • Organizes and provides extra help to struggling students.
  • Supervises the Head Administration TF to coordinate accommodation requests from the Disability Access Office.
  • Engages in student‑facing work that involves sensitive information and requires a high degree of discretion and confidentiality.
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in an office setting.
  • This position requires 5 days in office on campus; may include in‑person work during emergency situations (if applicable). Additional details will be discussed during the interview process.
Physical Requirements
  • Sitting using near vision for reading and computer use for extended periods of time.
  • Lifting (~20–30 pounds), bending and other physical exertion.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • Superior organizational, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong doctoral record in inorganic or physical chemistry is preferred.
  • Experience teaching or mentoring undergraduate students in a laboratory setting is also strongly preferred.

  • Appointment End Date:
    One‑year term, renewable yearly based on performance and curricular need.
