Responsibilities
SENIOR LECTURER AND DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION, Institute for Medical Engineering & Science (IMES) – Harvard‑MIT Health Sciences and Technology (HST) – will lead HST’s MIT‑based educational programs; responsibilities include overseeing academic affairs, educational policy, and curriculum development; advising and mentoring HST Ph.D. students; advancing strategic educational initiatives in partnership with HST co‑directors; shaping the future of the HST student experience; will develop an educational portfolio aligned with candidate expertise and program needs;
coordinate training programs and grants; oversee academic budgets; serve as the IMES/HST UROP coordinator; and support the continued excellence and growth of HST’s educational mission.
- MD or PhD in a related field with experience in curriculum design, implementation, and assessment
- At least five years of administrative experience, preferably in academia
- Demonstrated teaching experience and commitment to educational innovation
- Strong leadership, supervisory, relationship‑building, organizational, and project management skills, including financial oversight
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Discretion in handling confidential matters
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Zoom, and learning new systems (e.g., Canvas, File Maker, financial platforms)
- Flexibility to support key programmatic and community events through occasional evening and weekend work (approximately four to six times per year)
- Experience in higher education and/or collaborative, cross‑institutional academic environments
