Description of Service Opportunity:

Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (CRLS) is a school with a goal of providing all students with rigorous, joyful, and culturally responsive learning, as well as social, emotional, and academic supports to help students succeed post‑secondary.

CRLS offers Summer Preview Programs for students planning to take an Honors or Advanced Placement class next year, particularly those who have historically experienced racial and/or economic marginalization. These programs are for a two‑week period.

The Math Preview Program (MPP) at CRLS focuses on providing students with:

  • Social, emotional, and academic support
  • Equitable access to curriculum and opportunities
  • A joyful and challenging learning experience

The primary objectives of the MPP are:

  • Forge and cultivate strong relationships with peers and teachers
  • Build academic confidence in the subject area, enhancing engagement and joy in class during the school year
  • Demonstrate and encourage a growth mindset, risk‑taking, and innovation
  • Each class will review and reinforce prerequisite skills while previewing essential content and skills needed for a successful start to the school year. The course incorporates studentship skills such as note‑taking, organization, time management, participation, and self‑advocacy. Teachers must employ differentiated instructional strategies for diverse learners.

    Responsibilities

    Demonstrate and encourage a growth mindset philosophy and risk‑taking throughout the experience. The preview course will be held during the summer of 2026.

    Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university
    • Massachusetts certification in grade 9‑12 subject matter
    • Experience teaching in an urban, multi‑cultural school system with inclusionary practices
    • Meet NCLB highly qualified teacher requirements
