Job DescriptionTo assist the classroom teacher in implementing Mandarin and English curriculums based on children's individual developmental needs in the context of a classroom community of learners. The instructional aide will work as an assistant teacher under the direction of the classroom teacher and principal.
The aide will assist the classroom teacher with planning, developing, and providing a creative learning environment focused on high academic achievement, excellence in teaching, respect for differences, and collaborative relationships. The aide will assist in providing daily activities that integrate learning across the curriculum, work with pupils individually and in small group activities, document pupil progress, prepare instructional materials, and perform other duties designated by the classroom teacher and principal.
The aide will also assist in recess supervision.
- Bachelor's degree preferred, minimum of Associate's degree, or 48 college credits.
- Previous coursework in the education of elementary-grade children is preferred.
- Previous successful classroom experience with students in an urban, multicultural setting, preferably at the elementary level.
- Demonstrated ability to respect diversity and help children develop a positive self-image as successful learners.
- Conversational Mandarin knowledge and comfort supporting students and the classroom in both Mandarin and English.
